Commentaires : Cette espèce peu connue de France est fréquemment confondue avec S. vespiformis, qui est beaucoup plus répandu. Pour les différencier il convient d'examiner le thorax (traits latéraux jaunes chez vespiformis, épaulettes jaunes chez theryi) et la touffe anale (nettement jaune au centre chez le mâle de theryi, presque entièrement noire chez celui de vespiformis).
